Gypsea, Sea Shepherd team up for charitable swimsuit
Save the whales with an exclusive one-piece suit from the Australian swimwear brand
When it comes to protecting marine wildlife, few have the passion of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the international nonprofit reigning over a fleet of anti-whaling ships made famous by Animal Planet’s “Whale Wars.” But protecting wildlife is a cause close to Gypsea director and designer Scott Baur’s heart, too, which is why he and his partner, Emma Jones, teamed up with the crew of the Sea Shepherd to create the first-ever Sea Shepherd swimsuit, a sleek, scoop-neck black one-piece for women emblazoned with the society’s skull and trident logo.
“I’ve been free driving most of my life and have seen some crazy shit,” Baur tells us. “I had a bull humpback whale swim right up to me. It’s a humbling experience, and the idea of killing them or any other marine creature for mindless profit disgusts me.”
The one-piece is the first and only official Sea Shepherd swimwear design and is only available at the Gypsea website (select brick and mortar stores may carry the design this summer). A portion from each suit sale will benefit the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in its efforts to end marine habitat destruction and wildlife slaughter.
“I’ve always been a big supporter of Sea Shepherd and what they stand for,” explains Baur. “Doing this collaboration … is just another great opportunity to get behind their cause, raise some money and create some awareness. I couldn’t think of a better environmental billboard than a beautiful girl wearing a Sea Shepherd swimsuit.” —MSRP $130, gypsea.com.au
