Morgan is a young orc who was collected on 23 June 2010, not far from the shores of the Wadden Sea, in the north-west of the Netherlands. Fragile, she was immediately transported to the dolphinarium Harderwijk to receive first aid.
"Morgan was very weak and very thin. Completely dehydrated, she weighed only 430 Kilos. So we took the decision, in consultation with the Ministry of the Environment, to capture it and then take it to the Harderwijck Dolfinarium to give it strength, "said at the time of the rescue Mr. Bert van Plateringen, the spokesman of the Dutch Marine Park. "We do not know where she came from or how she got there," he added, adding that the black and white cetacean was a young female about 3,5 meters long, one to two years old.
This orc, he added, transported in a special truck, would stay in a pool of the dolphinarium until it was able to be released and to support itself.
Since then, Morgan has returned to health. She has been moved to a larger pool with no other contact than with her healers.
As for the direction of the marine park, it seems to have forgotten its promises. With the approval of the Minister of the Environment, Mr. Henk Bleker, it was decided that the young orc would never be released at sea near his family, but shipped to the Loro Parque dolphinarium in Tenerife. Canary). This choice is considered illegal by the Dutch association "Orca Coalitie" and is currently the subject of legal proceedings before a court.
living in "Loro Parque", the Spanish dolphinarium where the killer whale is likely to be sent, will lead to a serious deterioration in terms of living conditions. Morgan will be placed in a basin even smaller than the one where she is in the Netherlands and still alone, the captive orcs of Loro Parque being separated from each other apart from the shows. One of Minister Henk Bleker's arguments for moving Morgan to Tenerife was that she was not in the company of other congeners.
As for the study of his dialect carried out by the Dutch dolphinarium, it proved, with an accuracy of 77,7%, that Morgan came from a Norwegian “pod”. According to the Ministry, the margin of error is too large and the orca, which will never find its own, will now become the property of Seaworld Parks & Entertainment, an American chain of amusement parks.
This choice is obviously absurd: all the experts in marine ethology know that no orc can be held under adequate conditions in captivity, at the same time because of its size, its degree of intelligence and its social structures. The stress experienced by these large cetaceans in ponds, noisy and repetitive performances, boredom, lack of live prey and hunting activities are all factors that contribute to induce immunosuppression and cause mortality three times higher in the captive population than in wild populations.
The Orka Coalitie Association continues to struggle day in and day out to turn the tide and restore Morgan's freedom, both judicially and scientifically. But she needs help to bring this fight to fruition!
Through the Dolphin Connection, you can make a donation to Orka Coalitie to support them and contribute to the release of this young orca!

In fact franck, and I say it nicely lol, even if you wanted to make humor, it seems that it was badly worded, because a priori misunderstood by some…. Everything is open to criticism and fortunately…. as long as we explain things as they are and then we can go further to paroxism…. and on the federation …… I have something to express myself…
I'm sorry to contradict you but the Open Water is much more complete than the N1….
If you dive in a PADI structure and which limits you in your prerogatives .... pass the TEC50 and you will see diving differently http://www.padi.com/scuba/plongee/cours-padi/cours-techniques/default.aspx
By getting to know them, you may see things differently? I know the French mentality is to go down and “twist” in the air, but it's a bit stupid, isn't it? especially on a wreck if you go back up and you have trouble remembering it lol and then also following the good old Gauloise method as soon as you go up 50 or 60 m with a 15l mono where you only spent 5 or 7 ′ at worst, once on the boat a lot of “Ricard”…. This is also what makes Padi successful lol they have something else to offer, re LOL (and I'm not a PADI pro !!)
Padi has a commercial and professional approach to diving, which disturbs the French who have been formatted to the mold of associative clubs which for many of them have not yet discovered Nitrox ...
Now as with everything, it is not for this that they are not exempt from reproach on certain things. Just one last point, the number of PADI commercial structures is increasing in France, is there probably a reason for that?
News from Morgan: a favorable opinion to his release !!!
Last Monday, at the end of the first day of the trial for the rehabilitation of Morgan in his home environment, it emerged that 4 of 7 experts looking into Morgan's case are in favor of returning to Norway's sea, rather than its transfer and confinement in one of the world's most rotten dolphinariums: Loro Parque in Spain!
The support campaign Orka Coalitie currently led by the association Action for Dolphins has already achieved excellent results. In less than a week, it's more 1000 € on the 3000 needed to defend the cause of Morgan that have been harvested ! At least a third total legal costs can be financed thanks to donors!
Every gift counts, even the smallest ones! (1 €)
If you want More information about the case of the orca Morgan, the association Orka Coalitie and his actions, the usefulness of the donations, the progress of the trial or if you wish make a donation, it's on the website of the Dolphin Connection that it happens!
Young orca Morgan's release will not take place:
this is what the Dutch justice announced Monday during the trial to decide whether or not Morgan is transferred to a Spanish dolphinarium, Loro Parque, rather than having the possibility of joining the open sea.
Morgan will therefore join a tiny pool in order to perform tricks to amuse the public in Tenerife.
French ecologist Jean-Michel Cousteau, in reaction to this decision, said: “it is unfortunate that we continue to be manipulated by the power of economics rather than being guided by clear science and what is best for the welfare of the killer whale. "
Lara Pozzato, president of the movement Free Morgan and who brought the lawsuit to block the transport of the killer whale, said: “the Spanish authorities have recognized Loro Parque as a zoo and zoos are seen to have intrinsic value for educational teaching. But there is no educational teaching, no scientific research in Loro Parque."
The Orka Coalitie association intends to continue its actions in favor of Morgan, if it is still possible, at the legal level.
