WhatFish: major update now available and optimized for iPhone!
WhatFish, the marine species identification application has just released a new update. Not just any since everything has been taken from scratch for smooth use and without any addiction.
That's not all, WhatFish was previously available for iPad only now for iPhone! And it's pretty good because with the size of iPhone 6 and 6 plus, WhatFish is even more accessible and can be accessed anytime and anywhere.
A short overview.
Why make it complicated when it can be simple ?
The original idea of WhatFish is to offer an application allowing the identification of marine species without having to know the name of the species or the family to which it belongs. WhatFish's search engine is therefore extremely efficient because it suffices to simply select a series of keywords such as geographical location, color, size, patterns etc. to filter the 1700 photos in the gallery. Of course, WhatFish is also for connoisseurs and it is therefore also possible to search (and find!) A species or a family by simply entering the scientific or common name of the species or family sought. It couldn't be simpler, but above all effective.
A compelling free trial version
The version is always free to test with 50 photos to test all the features. A single integrated purchase allows to obtain all the photos as well as unlimited access to the dive book.
More than 1000 species, a logbook… for 4,99euros only!
Once purchased, it is more than 1000 cash (for about 1700 photos) that are uploaded to the device and unlimited access to the dive log.
Don't worry though, photos are optimized and the 1700 photos will only take up around 700MB of your device's memory (for comparison, some online apps like Facebook take up over 600MB!). After that, no need for an internet connection. Everything is recorded.
What about the updates?
Of course, it does not stop there. The goal of the team behind WhatFish is to constantly increase the number of species but also to ensure the relevance of the information. They therefore ensure the update and possible fixes as and when. Whenever you are connected to the internet with your device, opening WhatFish automatically triggers a check for available updates. You can then decide to accept or install it later through the application settings. Updates may include new species or photos added, taxonomic corrections or content.
Partners and the protection of the environment.
Currently, 15 photographers have taken part in the project by sharing their photos, some of which participate (and win) photo contests! Suffice to say that it is pleasant for the eyes.
WhatFish is also concerned about the environment and the protection of species. The team is therefore committed to supporting the Manta Trust (mantatrust.org), a UK-based manta ray protection foundation, by donating 10% of the profits generated by sales. WhatFish has also opted for a truly green hosting solution with Greenshift.eu.
And then Android, when is it due?
Coming soon. Even very soon. The developers are also writing thousands of line codes to have a first version available before the end of the summer. So a little patience, we do not have any more for a very long time. We'll keep you posted.
