Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands archipelago, located in theAtlantic Ocean, off African coasts.
Lanzarote is pure geology, underwater and lunar landscapes, transparent waters, thirsty lands, oases of palm groves. It is the harmonious cohabitation between man and nature and undoubtedly a land of contrasts. Its value and originality have been recognized by UNESCO which declared the island "Biosphere Reserve" in 1993, recognizing the particular culture of the island, all contributing strongly to the preservation of the natural heritage of Lanzarote .
After landing in Arrecife, a 4 hour direct flight from Marseille, we head to Puerto Del Carmen, ten minutes from the airport, to meet Eric et Géraldine, the two owners and instructors of the only French-speaking diving center on the island, AQUASPORT DIVING.
AQUASPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: THE CENTER
Aquasport Diving is the first and only French-speaking diving center on the island. It is located in Puerto del Carmen. It is a French federal diving center, as well as a 5-star PADI center. Family-friendly, welcoming and truly convivial, this is the spirit of the place, where the whole team is at your disposal to offer you a unique and unforgettable diving experience.
AQUA SPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: The team
Géraldine is a PADI Instructor - MF1 / CMAS 2 *. After working in the wine industry, she decided to make her passion her job. She has been an instructor since 2007.
Eric is PADI Master Instructor and Tec Deep Instructor / Instructor side mount. After twenty years in communication, he decided to change his life. Passionate about the underwater world, he became a diving instructor.
After both working in France and then in Mexico, it was in Lanzarote that they opened with great joy their own diving center.
"With Aquasport Diving, our team makes the difference. We love what we do, and we do it with passion. We combine experience and knowledge, both in and out of the water to provide you with friendly and professional service. ”
AQUASPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: Dives
What was our surprise when we made our very first dive, in Puerto Del Carmen. About fifty meters from the edge, a wall goes down to 50m deep. In just a few minutes of immersion, it is an explosion of life that awaits our dazzled eyes. A mix of Mediterranean, Atlantic and Caribbean. Sardines, barracudas, groupers, flute fish, different species of rays, stingrays, torpedoes and eagles, to name a few, as well as a multitude of garden eels, orange corals and black corals, a garden of magnificent Eden that we were able to admire at a depth of 58 m.
Let's not forget the emblematic species of Lanzarote, the famous angel shark. During the levels, the show continues with lizard fish, soles, cuttlefish, spider crabs, seahorses ... all this in the exoticism of an environment that will remind you of Waïkiki, Fariones, Veril de Playa Chica or Cueva de las Gambas ...
AQUASPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: THE EPAVES
Lovers of wrecks, we could not fail to explore some of them. Around the pier of Puerto del Carmen, there are indeed a large number of wrecks. All of them were voluntarily sunk in 1986, in order to create artificial reefs for diving exploration.
The Colero Wrecks site offers the possibility of successively discovering three wrecks, between 20m and 40m deep. Los Pecios is another site where we dived, rich in three wrecks to explore during the same dive. At the Veril de Playa Chica, a small boat adds yet another interest to this superb dive ...
AQUASPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: THE SIDEMOUNT
Among the different courses offered at Aquasport Diving, Eric introduced us to a different diving setup, the side mount, which you may know.
Two aluminum blocks are placed on both sides of the body, well aligned with the sides of the diver, thus offering complete redundancy in gas resources and a feeling of unrivaled freedom of movement ...
AQUASPORT DIVING LANZAROTE: THE ISLAND OF LANZAROTE
Aquasport Diving offers two dives in the morning, with a snack between each dive. In the afternoon, a third dive is obviously offered. On Lanzarote, the beauty of the landscapes is such that you also have to go ashore to discover them. These include El Mirador del Río, which overlooks the ocean with a view of the island of Graciosa. The Cactus Garden. The Timanfaya Park, an island of volcanic origin which underwent eruptions in the XNUMXth century and which offers a lunar landscape dotted with hundreds of dried up volcanoes. La Geria and its vineyards. The green lagoon of El Golfo. The cliff of Los Hervideros. The salt marshes of Salinas de Janubio… and so many other sites… each time, it's an absolute change of scenery.
The island has hotels and accommodation suitable for all budgets. Eric and Geraldine can give you some advice on this subject. Finally, many restaurants offer a complete and varied menu and failing to choose… there is always… the Salami. 😉
