The "Memento Initiation, Pack-Discovery Level 1" has just been released by Gap. A booklet of 32 pages to introduce beginners to the dive and gently guide them to the 1 Level. We asked him a few questions.
Why did you edit an 1 Level Memento when there is already a dedicated Pleasure Pleasure book at the 1 level?
The memento responds to a different expectation from that of the book. Less bulky (32 pages against 192) and cheaper (5,90 € against 19 €) it is primarily for people who want a summary to go straight to the point.
In addition, this allows structures (clubs or centers) to directly include the Memento in their training.
What is the interest for a club to include the Fun Pleasure Memento in 1 level training?
It is a quality support, printed in color on glossy paper, with many photos and many drawings. It is both rewarding for the club that provides it and for the diver who receives it.
In addition, the diver and the host organization can enter their contact information on the first page.
How is the Memento articulated?
The memento is designed by double-pages that are sufficient on their own. It can therefore be read in different ways, from beginning to end or in any order.
How can we present all the knowledge of the 1 level in 32 pages?
The answer is twofold:
- On the one hand, certain information contained in Plongée Plaisir 1 does not appear at all in the Memento, for example the optional aptitude for autonomy (PA-12) and the underwater world,
- Then, the information retained is not detailed. Only the key, essential elements are indicated.
Thus, those who wish to enter the explanations can turn to Pleasure Pleasure 1. Others, who want to know the basics while having little to read, can turn to the Memento.
Is there a knowledge test?
Yes, there are 3 knowledge tests that cover the entire program. Some are playful (give me my sign, arrow words), others are classic MCQs.

Below, excerpt from a long story about a 10 km motorcycle trip, in the great American West… there are no other comments to be made, concerning sharks….
So after my return from my trip, here I am with our son… he insists a lot on going diving for 2 days in Santa Catalina… inhabited island, off Longbeach / Los Angeles, about 50 km from the coast… .I was not very warm, since I did not have my equipment which I trust …… but hey, I rented everything, including a wetsuit allowing water to pass through the back… very pleasant in the cold water of the Pacific ..; always cold, even at the end of summer… .so here we go for 2 days, September 23 and 24…; first day, 3 dives planned, from a superb boat called “KING NEPTUNE” with a kitchen equipped, soda dispenser, coffee machine, H and F toilets… great comfort, what! First dive… in the kelp… all the dives were also in the kelp….; it is a giant algae , which can grow up to 60 cm per DAY !!!!! only a bamboo from the far east grows faster… so this algae anchors itself on the rocky bottom and rises towards the surface… the “leaves” are equipped with flo heads filled with gas to ensure flotation .. the leaves and stems are about 30 m long and spread out over the surface… it is impossible to swim on the surface… .. on the other hand, under the surface, we slip into a sub wood ... if you have to surf to find the boat, you have to go back down and swim between the rods ... .. the kelp is home to countless species of marine animals, of all sizes .... so first dive ... the boss tells us that the 'we could well see giant sea bass… indeed, we saw 3… ..there is no need to get tired… it's a curious fish that comes to see what we're doing there… the smallest of three was bigger (and fat!) than me… it is fortunately a protected species… the largest known catch weighed 577 pounds !!! (262 kg!) in the rock gardens, we saw countless lobsters, because the season lobster was approaching… .during the mini season, for non-pros, we are entitled to 8 lobsters per day !!! you just have to respect the mini size (have a measuring instrument on you !!!) and do not take females…. the mini season lasts 2 weeks… we can therefore fill a freezer easily …….
second dive, another site…. the Boss says: you may see sharks !!! to see them, we saw them… after about 1/4 hour of diving… I saw a shark between the kelp rods … I make the sign to my partner, who hides behind me !!! we continue the progression and here is 1, then 2, then…. A good twenty, who sneak in the kelp to rush on us, and turn to the last second… they weren't aggressive at all, but nervous to see us there… ..we walked away cautiously, especially when they started turning frantically in some kind of clearing in the kelp… .they didn't are not considered dangerous, but it impresses anyway…. out of curiosity, google "blue shark" ……… good, third dive ..; a leopard shark spins me under the ventriére …… .it was SHARKS day …… and finally ??? I saw the biggest school of sardines of my life… thousands… thousands… and thousands…. Hallucinating !!!!!; the following day, we made 2 cushy dives in the marine park local… .c 'is pleasant, because we start from the pedibus club, pushing a cart in which we pile all the stuff, including the bottles ... .. after a quarter of an hour of walking, we equip ourselves and we start water from the edge… and in the kelp you can see everything, including lobsters… ..excellent memories, because of course I did not have my SM photo gear… the most beautiful photos are those that we miss for lack of gear !!! kelp is regularly harvested by kinds of floating lawn mowers, as it is used in a lot of cosmetic applications, etc. …… ..but it is not edible, strictly speaking …….
