"Whale Under Gravel“, Maybe this name is already familiar to you. Word of mouth or social networks, behind this strange name hides an associative media, rich in articles and podcasts on ecology and naturalism. This medium was originally just a weekly podcast imagined and created by Marc Mortelmans, passionate journalist and frequent traveler. The first confinement was for him the opportunity to take the plunge and embark on this adventure, this old dream that had haunted him for a long time. As a child, curiosity already inhabited him. Marc likes to distill his thirst for knowledge around him and share his wonder for nature and its secrets… When the time comes, Marc seizes the opportunity to reinvent himself by becoming podcasters. With his experience as a journalist, film director, he launched his show which, over time, turns into a real series today enriched with three seasons of podcasts, articles and photos.
By plunging into BSG, we discover the voice of Marc, moving twenty thousand places under the sea, between the murmur and the dream.
Marc takes us by the hand and guides us through the secret gardens of his guests. Hearing pleasure for the ears.
Throughout the programs, the guests presented as well as the themes discussed are varied. The listener sails between land and sea. During his program, Marc received many personalities, renowned scientists, seasoned explorers with fascinating subjects: observation of rare reptiles, study of insects with probable improbable morphologies or even the discovery of fish. abysmal, the themes are always instructive and challenging. According to his passion, Marc also knew how to attract the friendship of many photographers including some superstar of the image. Because BSG is not just a podcast, it is also a page Facebook, an account Instagram and website in which around thirty photos are exhibited on a weekly basis.
New podcasts:
Since September, “Baleine Sous Gravillon” has been expanded with three new musketeers, including the d'Artagnan in the future, exclusively reserved for ecologists, while the three additional series will address themes such as “No men”, A program dealing with etymology. If marc is a committed person, he doesn't like to present himself as an activist. You can find him in “combats”. At last, "Petit Poisson will become Podcast“, A program exclusively reserved for the Oceans, a podcast which should particularly appeal to divers.
A medium with various headings:
On the BSG site you will also find many articles and various categories such as “X Info on ... ","Did you know" or "Incredible Alive“, Rich sections which will know how to quench the thirst for curiosities of our naturalist friends. A very demanding job to which Marc devotes all of his time. The recordings, all remixed by professionals, and the documentation research, are very time consuming. Add to that the writing of the articles for the columns and the editorial work, and you will have a whole chain of trades almost ensured by one man. Fortunately, to accomplish all this work, Marc is surrounded by a essential team maintaining the quality of publications. It is therefore with the support of some twenty volunteers that Marc takes the helm of a ship which, without them, would have difficulty staying on course.
Support “Baleine sous gravillon”:
Today, for “Baleine Sous Gravillon”, the challenge is financial. Despite an associative status and the participation of many active volunteers, the management of such an activity remains very involved and currently represents the main activity of Marc and its president Ludivine Delamare. In order for “Baleine Sous Gravillon” to continue to evolve in troubled waters, it is necessary to maintain a financial balance.
Marc and Ludivine do not wish to bring the media to life through advertising. On the other hand, they leave the door open to the private sector for possible partnerships. A company, Devenn, their already trusted. Hopefully, in the near future, other philanthropic entrepreneurs will join the adventure.
