If I tell you that it was created in 1973 by Daniel Mercier and that it is the only event of this kind in the world. Films, photographs, books, music, websites, advertising… It brings together the best productions and the greatest specialists in the marine and underwater environment… you have all recognized that we are talking about the World Underwater Image Festival . This internationally recognized Festival created in 2002 a Foundation which is much less known to the public. This Foundation has the immense task of being the memory of the Festival.
The Foundation's mission is:
To protect and preserve the photographs, films, videos and all images, whatever the medium, entrusted to the Festival Mondial de l'Image Sous Marine and ensure the protection of copyright relating to these documents.
To protect and preserve the photographs, films, videos and all images, regardless of the medium, entrusted by natural or legal persons, after agreement of the board of directors and to ensure the protection of copyrights related to these documents.
To promote and promote by all means knowledge, the protection of the marine environment, its flora, fauna, environment, ecology and natural resources
To open its archives to the scientific world so that it can benefit from the world of the underwater image and its riches, to allow young and new directors to learn about the works produced in the archives.
History
Aware of the importance and the richness of the cultural heritage constituted by all the media awarded in previous years, Daniel Mercier, President of the Festival, created in 2002 the Foundation of the World Underwater Image Festival (FFMISM) responsible for ensuring the sustainability and transmission to future generations of this formidable heritage.
The first mission of the Foundation was to inventory all documents, photos, films, reports, etc ... in order to build a usable documentary base. From 2005, under the leadership of Michel Tavernier, its President, all documents have been digitized to ensure the sustainability of conservation and feed a database, true memory of the Festival. Finally, from 2006, A first website has opened to the consultation this documentary resource to the public for the free part of rights, and professionals (directors, documentalists, scientists, image professionals etc ...) for the part subject to the rules of copyright in respect of copyrights.
SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION
When Daniel Cornel, the current President of the Foundation contacted us, our support could only be massive. Here is his message to you:
“Hello members of scuba-people.com,
In a few days, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to fund the digitization of part of our 40 years of archives of works awarded during the World Underwater Image Festival.
We have been working on this digitization for several years thanks to the donations made to the foundation. But today, these donations are no longer sufficient and our archives are in danger. Indeed, some documents are damaged and become unusable. It is therefore urgent to digitize these unique archives so as not to lose this very rare database. To achieve this digitization we must:
1) Switch to telecine and digitize some of the remaining 70 silver films that have not yet been processed (35 hours of footage)
2) Acquire a storage server (NAS) with 5 3TB disks for the secure backup of all archives.
But these elements represent the sum of 10 000 €, and to collect this important sum we chose participative fi nancing.
Crowdfunding, or crowdfunding, is a lever that allows the general public to financially and collectively support an idea or project that appeals to them. The principle of crowdfunding allows people who believe in a project to pre-buy a product or service (at a reduced price). This pre-sale makes it possible to create a community and especially to fi nance the project and thus allow it to see the light of day.
If the goal is not reached, no credit card will be charged. It's that simple.
For the campaign to work, we need maximum support during the first 48 hours, which tend to define the success curve of a project. We need to reach at least 30% of our goal during these first two days.
So if you want to support the project, regardless of the amount, leave a comment at the bottom of this article, we will keep you informed as soon as the campaign is online.
You can also now go to our Facebook and indicate that you are participating in the event created for the occasion. Remember to invite all your friends to participate!
Hope to see you participate in this adventure with us! ”

In fact franck, and I say it nicely lol, even if you wanted to make humor, it seems that it was badly worded, because a priori misunderstood by some…. Everything is open to criticism and fortunately…. as long as we explain things as they are and then we can go further to paroxism…. and on the federation …… I have something to express myself…
I'm sorry to contradict you but the Open Water is much more complete than the N1….
If you dive in a PADI structure and which limits you in your prerogatives .... pass the TEC50 and you will see diving differently http://www.padi.com/scuba/plongee/cours-padi/cours-techniques/default.aspx
By getting to know them, you may see things differently? I know the French mentality is to go down and “twist” in the air, but it's a bit stupid, isn't it? especially on a wreck if you go back up and you have trouble remembering it lol and then also following the good old Gauloise method as soon as you go up 50 or 60 m with a 15l mono where you only spent 5 or 7 ′ at worst, once on the boat a lot of “Ricard”…. This is also what makes Padi successful lol they have something else to offer, re LOL (and I'm not a PADI pro !!)
Padi has a commercial and professional approach to diving, which disturbs the French who have been formatted to the mold of associative clubs which for many of them have not yet discovered Nitrox ...
Now as with everything, it is not for this that they are not exempt from reproach on certain things. Just one last point, the number of PADI commercial structures is increasing in France, is there probably a reason for that?
