"The Canadian Paul Watson, founder of the anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd and currently wanted by Interpol, on Tuesday gave up his functions within the environmental organization, in particular those of captain of a boat in the fleet.
Watson is currently wanted by Interpol: arrested in May at Frankfurt airport at the request of the Costa Rica who accuses him ofavoir endangered a crew during an operation against shark hunting in 2002, he had escaped the Justice German and fled.
The 62-year-old environmental activist has resigned as president of Sea Shepherd (“Berger des mers”) in the United States and Australia. For legal reasons, he also gave up his position as Captain of the Steve Irwin, a fleet boat that harasses Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean. His duties with Sea Shepherd were transferred to Bob Brown, a male policy Australian founder of the Green party.
