LONGITUDE 181 release
After 13 long years of work and consultations, the 10th French National Park is born.
A mainly maritime park
It is the first National Park created in metropolitan France since 1979 (the Iroise Marine Park, in Brittany, is a Natural Park). With 90% of its total surface at sea, it is mainly maritime. The “heart of the park” covers 51 ha, including 800 at sea. It is home to nearly 43 protected species (including one of the rare pairs of Bonelli's eagles in France, and many endemic terrestrial plants) , while the marine environment is home to 500 heritage species (140/60 of which are protected, such as the Mérou and the Corb).
Finally, there are many archaeological sites, including the famous Cosquer cave.
First peri-urban park
But it's a very special park, the first peri-urban park in Europe. Its terrestrial territory is, indeed, located mainly on the Marseilles agglomeration, 2ème city of France with its 800 000 inhabitants. Its creation has sparked endless debates. Yet, nature is not a mere "decor" where the man takes pleasure in conducting his leisure activities. Nor is it a "garden" that has to bow to our whims of space organization and species selection. It is a living world where species need calm, where they must be able to move and move freely, according to their own rules and not ours, to weave between them and with the environment the essential links that allow to an ecosystem to continue.
The park of Calanques will not be able to reach this goal, of course, too close to a big agglomeration. But it will limit the uses. Above all, it will limit the excesses of overcrowding and excessive urbanization of creeks: it will provide the necessary regulatory framework, the only one able to contain the tourist pressure that will only amplify.
Protect 20% of French waters by 2020
The Parc des Calanques is the 3th marine area set up since 2010. Three new marine parks are under consideration and should see the light of day by the end of the year, according to the ministry: Estuaires Picardie and Opal Sea, Estuary of Gironde and Pertuis, and Bassin d'Arcachon. Finally a decree, published this same 18 April, announced the setting in the study of the marine Natural Park of Martinique.
The goal of Grenelle de la mer, "to place 20% of French waters under protection by 2020", seems to be on track!
The mobilization of all makes it possible to serve a good cause: it is now up to us, divers or not, to respect this underwater and land park ...

I don't want Nicolas from your MF1. Read my 1st degree mess, which suggests that there are others? like what diving is full of masos since those who did not understand the first time persevere! Would you like to teach me to dive? certainly not, because you would have to ask for a certificate from the shrink! ——– and you would probably be right!
The bubbles have invaded my life and I see “stone fish” everywhere, especially at night when I wake up in a sweat, terrified! The vest lifts I know, but in my life I have known “the suspender lifts” I even knew an MF1 or a BES “read good service escagasseur” in Egypt and which forced me to drink 1 liter and a half of water before diving, under the pretext that a doctor had told him that it makes the blood more fluid and that it avoids the decompression accidents (true) in short I almost drowned myself before the hour! then anyway water is well known it makes rust, and I prefer whiskey! The same instructor considered that beyond 30 meters any diving was dangerous! he would have PADI sorry “not said” I would not have understood ——— lol
In any case, thank you for your posts and I hope that one day we will find ourselves in the abyss
Good news! 🙂
What is crazy about Che ??? How many people did he kill?
Okay ... A little reading!
