A tropical storm has formed since Wednesday in southern Vanuatu. It was named Vania, it generated average winds close to 100 km / h and gusts between 130 and 150 km / h. Vania passed Lifou then Nouméa and Ile des Pins before heading south today.
260 mm of rain were recorded in Noumea, 203 mm in Ile des Pins, as well as 145 km / h gusts in Noumea.
After a respite this weekend, a new tropical storm, Zelia, visible in the satellite image, could threaten New Caledonia early next week.
The last cyclone to hit the island was named Erica, and hit New Caledonia in 2003. So in category 4, it caused 2 victims and 50 million euros in damage.
