VIDEO TO THE ONE
This is the first time this fish has been filmed.
On Monday 17 November 2014, the scientist Bruce Robison of MBARI (see Amazing “black sea devil” anglerfish observed in Monterey Bay) was leading a dive using the Doc Ricketts rc vehicle when he saw this astonishing anglerfish about 580 meters below the ocean surface. This animal is nicknamed the “dragon of the abyss” because of its terrifying appearance. It has a jaw lined with retractable teeth. But it measures only 9 cm! Only the female carries a luminous organ. The bright spot on the fish's head is a light lure. Monkfish use their light to attract their prey.
