Help us convince the Euro-deputies by your testimony
The action that we launched on June 8, on the occasion of World Oceans Day, is entering the active phase.
On September 20, 4 Euro-deputies launched, in a plenary session at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the procedure which will make it possible to fight against fining: Jean-Paul Besset (France), Chris Davies (United Kingdom), Sirpa Pietikäinen (Finland) , Daciana Octavia Sârbu (Romania).
This so-called “Written Declaration” procedure calls for the implementation of the Action Plan for sharks that we obtained in 2009. It calls for the adoption of measures which will become law in each European country and on each European boat, wherever they fish in the world.
Concretely, it is a question of prohibiting any cutting of shark fins on ships, in particular by stopping the issuance of special permits which still allow this practice.
The 4 Euro-MEPs who submitted this Written Declaration must now obtain the signature of at least 50% of MEPs. It's up to us to help them convince them. It is up to us to challenge our MEPs and obtain their support.
For this, Longitude 181 Nature has chosen to collect the testimony of divers. By reporting observations on the ground, concrete facts, we will make an original contribution which should attract the attention of MEPs.
Each member of the Shark Alliance will take their own action. We are now a hundred, a hundred to combine our efforts!
Have those letters signed around you, talk about them, send us back the ones you had signed this summer.
Thank you! Download the testimonial letter to be sent to: Longitude 181 Nature - 12 rue la Fontaine - 26000 Valence before November 15, 2011
