Born in 1983 in Gaomi (Shandong Province, China), Fan Xiaoyan obtained her sculpture license degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, she lives and works in Beijing.
The steel that composes this work evokes the cold of a knife piercing the body of a shark with cruelty, an act devoid of all humanity. The fins seem suspended in the void like a pig waiting to be sold to the state then consumed. Unlike its red color, symbol of vitality and energy, the shark seems hopeless. The rays of light pass through the fins to illuminate the exterior of the shark which seems to be on the verge of explosion, unable to contain these “flames”.
This work is sounding the alarm. If the massacre continues, the sharks are doomed, then the environment and finally the human species.

It's finally starting to move! That's very good news! I have also read that some Chinese restaurants have removed Shark fin soup from their menus… Things are not going as quickly as we would like but the persistence of awareness is starting to bear fruit! Good reasons to continue !!
A splash! 😉
It becomes cultural here… Thanks to you Xtine 😉
