The splendid toad fish, endemic to Cozumel

This family includes about 45 species distributed in the warm seas of the world. 
As the Splendid Toad is endemic to Cozumel, we don't have much information about it. This one dries up in cavities between 10 and 20 meters, where it can be spotted from time to time thanks to its barbels which protrude a little. If not the other solution to see it, follow your guide who generally knows his hiding places well, especially since he is very sedentary. Toad fish are very timid and therefore cannot be approached easily. It is very rare to see it in full. It can measure between 15 and 25 cm. Its particularity is its sublime color, a large and flat head with black and white stripes, a spotted body and especially the bright yellow edge of its fins.

They feed on molluscs and small fish.
