I am the first to say that I am afraid of cave diving! Even in Mexico I did not want to dive in cenotes, but from there to taste the future divers… .STOP.
I went to the movies this evening at the 19:00 pm screening at the Polydome in Beziers to see Sanctum in 3D. I was telling myself that there would be one or two deaths… ..but from there to imagine that the whole cast was going to be there… I was far from it.
This is not a big show film about the world of cave diving… .it is a film about euthanasia.
In the room there was me and a couple… already that should have put me in the ear on the quality of the film! The gentleman asks me politely once the light is on: ”did you like it?” his wife was nauseous and already regretted his 20 euros….
For this gentleman, that's what my answer was:
“No Sir, I didn't like it and I'm even angry. It's a movie to disgust any sane person to dive in and try out a rebreather. Cameron the producer in all his interviews has loudly proclaimed to respect the technical diving rules. This is why, in her film, we dive without a wetsuit, we leave a beginner at the end of the dive and we patiently wait to know if the diver (beginner who has never dived) succeeded without drowning to get out of the tunnel. The main theme of the film is euthanasia (3 team members euthanized for 1h49, that's a lot anyway). To that, I add 2 deaths by drowning, and I too suddenly want to vomit. For the technical details, Cameron was not mistaken. He chose the best brands clearly visible on the screen Aqualung for the mask (the most expensive the one which costs 75 euros on the catalog) and Cressi for the fins. To this we add in the dialogues a lil 'don't worry I manage your Ppo2' with the deep voice of the father who is worried about his son (he should rather be worried about him because in 30 min c his son is going to euthanize him)… and for Cameron we are a recycler specialist!
In short, to summarize:
- 1h49 in 3 D which does not add anything because there are few beautiful images of flooded caves.
- 5 deaths: 3 euthanized (1 decompression accident which sacrifices itself, a completely broken speleo which one drowns on purpose because he is dying, and the hero “Papa” who is impaled on a stalagmite and euthanized by drowning by his son ), 1 death by drowning due to equipment failure (changing the mask did not work), and 1 death by drowning in apnea.
I left the cinema ... ... swearing to myself not to recommend this film to my mom and with a deep discomfort about the image that we are going to give diving ..
Tonight I'm going to rent a good comedy on demand video to decompress without leveling off and avoid putting away my Cressi fins and my Aqualung mask (those from the film …… yes….).

Hello,
in fact, see you in 2011 ...
Some organizational problems led us to postpone the 2010 operation.
The next diagnostic operation will therefore take place in 2011, the final date should be known at the beginning of December.
All I can tell you is that the 2011 operation will be bigger with an increasing number of participants and partners.
Hello,
I just read all of your comments on the film. Very interesting. With the trailer, I did indeed have the feeling that it was a disaster movie: I'm not a big fan, just like the 2012 movie.
Well if not, I have a film proposal for you: Last night. I won't say it's a comedy like Rien à Déclarer (which doesn't appeal to me) but I really liked it. There are some very good actors. This is not a head-turner film, rather easy and entertaining. We can stop at the 1st degree as always but it also allows a real debate on the subject: from when / what act, the man or the woman cheats on the other? I went there with a friend, as a couple, we didn't have the same vision and we had a very interesting discussion.
Otherwise when Open Water came out, I would say that I had been a bit masochistic: I saw the film 2 weeks before going diving in the Bahamas with the center which had participated in the film. I came back from there you see… and whole 😉
totally agree ! practically uninteresting film: useless 3D images, serious ethical mistakes in diving in a particular environment, etc.
to avoid !!!

Hello
I just saw it it's real disappointing nothing to do with diving a simple disaster film
I think that in today's cinematographic world, you have to make films that sell for the trusts… .. with the explosive cocktail of thrills, superb images (it must be said that there are beautiful images, sometimes, in this film, of course), of philosophy (one is little in front of nature…), of love (this father and his son), of shivers… and especially of 3D… This film, on these points is successful… but In my opinion too, it stops there ... If - there is one positive thing: for the non-diver or the “young” diver, we do not take our head with the technique, the safety rules, redundancies and the rest ... it's still a 'show' for a large audience ... and I fully agree with Anne-Violaine in her post ... The proof is, when I left, in addition to the regret of my 16 € (well yes, I was lucky to have, in addition, a small reduction…), I looked at a very close friend, who has been a “sout diving” instructor for a long time and who does not take himself for a “super-kador”…. I just told him, laughing: “You, I forbid you to dive now, and to do what you were doing again this morning !! You have a wife and kids ... think about it! “… He answered me with a big smile:“ I promise to be careful, like this morning… this film is just a crap… yet, there are people behind the camera to instill technical advice and ideas… and this are “pros”… that's a shame… Come on, come on, let's have a beer while listening to the Irish band… at least we won't regret our money! ”
Long live the world of silence…. but the silence of the money that we do not hear falling into the pockets of producers and directors !!
Hi everybody !!!
I quite agree with Nicolas's opinion ……
A lot of sout techniques are used but can not be emphasized enough compared to the dramatic side of the film….
But it is precisely a film and not a documentary !!!
The reality is often quite different, moreover in reality the video is far from being all the time as we see it here !!!!
In terms of creating vocations, the advantage is that with this type of film, it won't help… lol
But it's not bad !!!!
Support requires being a seasoned open-environment diver with great rigor in preparation / planning and stress management of procedural equipment, etc ...
All this to say that those who come there will not do it with a deep desire to discover another facet of diving and not because it was beautiful in the cinema and that's good !!
Finally, I prefer the dead (in the cinema of course) by ignorance of recycling techniques rather than a guy who would carry his recycler on one arm like a vulgar backpack and who would take to the water as if he was going freediving without any check ...
In my opinion, this would not reflect the reality of this type of gear at all and would suggest that it is super easy and without risk… ..and that is very dangerous (in real life…)
This is only my humble opinion of course….
Thank you, I wouldn't go see him !!!!!!!!
friendly!
