Passions of wrecks
From 15 May 2012 to 15 June 2012
Police station: S. Le Gallais
Partnership: Corsica Photosub
Starting from May 15 the museum of Bastia offers in counterpoint of its exhibition "Bastia 43 - the Italian occupation seen by the children", an exhibition of photographs entitled "Passions of wrecks. Underwater heritage of the second world war in Corsica »
Corsica Photosub, a group of dive enthusiasts, is conducting an important survey of undersea wrecks along the Corsican coast. Driven by the desire to share their knowledge of these often unknown remnants of the Second World War with the greatest number of people, they carry out photographic reports during each of their dives. Thus, one of its members, Stephan le Gallais, today exposes 35 prints in the rooms of the mezzanine of the museum of Bastia.
These are essentially views taken off the eastern plain between 2011 and 2012. Although these photographs mainly concern aircrafts, we can also discover in this exhibition some ships including a gunboat and a building several times refurbished. Some of these views reveal for the first time wrecks located in areas particularly difficult to access.
The work of Stephan le Gallais and the story of his dives are to discover on the site www.legallais.net.
