Longitude 181 launched a petition in January 2016 to obtain protection for Mobula rays during the next CITES * which will take place in September 2016 in Johannesburg for the 17th Conference of the Parties (CoP). Thank you to all those who supported us and who will support us!
And excellent news to share with all those who support us in this action: the protection proposal (transition to appendix II of the Convention of 9 Mobula ray species prohibiting international trade) was made by the Fiji Islands. it has received co-sponsorship from 51 countries! including the countries of the European Union, and several others: Brazil, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Comoros, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Fiji, Gabon, Ghana , Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritania, Panama, Palau, Samoa, Senegal, Seychelles, Sri Lanka ,, Arab Emirates, USA, Ukraine, Colombia Ivory Coast, India, and Kenya.
It's not won, and we'll have to wait for COP17 in September, but it's a great start!
In order to convince the refractory CITES representatives, you can sign or have people sign the petition!
Thank you for your support for this program! We are not far from our goal!https://secure.avaaz.org/fr/petition/Delegues_de_la_CITES_COP17_Protegeons_les_raies_Mobula_avant_quil_ne_soit_trop_tard/?launch
