For those who regularly follow the news of Longitude 181 Nature, you have noted that LONGITUDE 181 is fully committed to the "Shark crisis" which strikes the island of Reunion.
Last June, we obtained that the Administrative Court of Reunion ruled in favor of the Sea Shepherd, ASPAS and Longitude 181 associations and invalidated a municipal decree calling for shark fishing in the town of St Leu, which is classified as a National Marine Reserve. The decree in question also offered to buy from voluntary fishermen, the first 40 sharks, at a price of 7 euros per kilo - or nearly 2000 euros for a shark of 300 kilos, at the taxpayer's expense.
Unfortunately the "Shark crisis" is only getting worse and it has reached its climax lately.
There was a dramatic fatal accident caused by a shark 15 July, in the town of Saint Paul, Reunion.
On the injunction of the Administrative Tribunal and the highest authorities of the State, the Prefect of Reunion took "measures" ...: 90 sharks - 45 bulldogs and 45 tigers - will be executed. The state is also considering the introduction of "reasoned regulation" measures of shark populations in the island's outskirts in the long term. This means that each shark who approaches the coast of Reunion is guilty of a package he could commit ... and therefore doomed!
And it's an absurdity!
This is why we invite you to read what François SARANO published on July 13, and also the press release and the manifesto published on August 12 by the various signatory NGOs, including Longitude 181, of which you are a member.
It seems very important to associate with these messages and documents to relay them as widely as possible. We need your support in the fight we have engaged in Reunion against human stupidity.
We are counting on you to give maximum echo and dissemination to this Press Release as an attachment and to sign without hesitation our petition :
Thank you in advance for your help, it is together that we will protect the Marine Area of Reunion!
