Historical city of scuba diving, the city of Sanary-sur-Mer offers you a journey into the history of diving and the perspective of Sanary in this adventure, in collaboration with the associations “Musée Frédéric Dumas”, “ Submareum ”,“ Immersio ”and the World Festival of the Underwater Image.
Inauguration
Friday June 4 at 18 p.m. at the Espace Saint-Nazaire and at 30 p.m. at the Galli Theater
Why did the man go under the sea? How? Is it about living in the water, breathing, seeing, witnessing, preserving. These are the necessities that pioneers will focus on, by tinkering, drawing inspiration from other divers' discoveries or by rediscovering ancient inventions to adapt them to diving. This led to the appearance of underwater diving suits, underwater crossbows, glasses or masks, bottles and regulators, and finally palms on the beaches of Portissol, Beaucourt and La Gorguette.
Program
Espace Saint-Nazaire: 1000m2 are dedicated to discovering the history of diving, from prehistory to the adventure of scuba diving. An educational exhibition, enriched with very rare pieces, unveiled to the public for the first time. Autonomous diving suits, “heavy feet”, and equipment for autonomous diving (from 1930 to 1960), and documents relating the adventure of the “Mousquemers”, Frédéric Dumas, Philippe Tailliez and Jacques Yves Cousteau.
