Here is the report of 2 dive days dedicated to the discovery of the lateral rebreather dive during the 1er Mai weekend.
At the initiative of the Underground Diving Commission of the CIRPM, this first meeting allowed us to share our passion and our technique in a relaxed atmosphere and in an exceptional site: the Saint Sauveur basin (Rocamadour - Lot) bathed by the sun of spring.
9 o'clock in the morning, a magical moment… .. first rays of sun, the mist dissipates, but where are the divers ???
About twenty participants from the PO, Aude, Lot and even Loire Atlantique participated in this event which is, let us remember, a first in our Regional Committee.
The guiding idea of this gathering, in addition to the pleasure of meeting each other, was to create an opportunity to exchange techniques, share know-how and compare often very different practices.
The objective seems to have been achieved since the audience was partly composed of perfect neophytes who discovered rebreather diving on this occasion, but also experienced divers who took advantage of this opportunity to better understand and assess the potential represented by lateral rebreathers. used in speleological diving.
Saturday 30 April:
A machine presentation workshop allowed to show in detail the design and operation of several models of recyclers.
Note that these rebreathers are prototypes designed and manufactured by cave diving enthusiasts and that each machine is unique.
Marc and Thomas in full pedagogy in front of a very concentrated audience !!!
The afternoon was devoted to in situ tests in the Saint Sauveur basin.
The last preparations before the dive
In this image, a wild recycler freshly captured and butchered shows his organs ...
Taking advantage of a moment of inattention, a diver tries to hack technological secrets… ..
Bertrand wonders which end to breathe! It changes Revo….
Seen from behind, O2 bottle on the left, Bi 7.5 L and recycler on the right
End of the day, after a technical stop at André Grimal's in Gramat to refill the bottles while having a well-deserved aperitif, the whole team gathered to dine at the restaurant.
In the middle of Causse: Les Vasques du Quercy station: Trimix, Nitrox, O2, etc ...
Sunday 1er May
8 heures du mat: preparation of a rebreather in the morning freshness
9.30 Hrs: Resurgence of the Ressel in Marcilhac on Célé:
Despite the early hour, the site is already crowded!
Indeed the visibility conditions are exceptional and information circulates quickly in the world of cave diving!
We will therefore have the pleasure of meeting our friends from the FFS (French Federation of Speleology) but also Russian and German divers !!
Thomas prepares to leave for a 2 hour dive with his side rebreather + scooter
Franck is preparing for his first dive in a lateral rebreather (1 hour of diving anyway !!!)
An FFS diver at the start in a double rebreather
Last checks before the big departure.
Finally, here is what it looks like underwater:
Despite the crowds on the site, everything went perfectly and it was after a friendly picnic on the banks of the Célé that the participants regretfully separated.
A very nice moment of sharing even if the time seems to pass very (too) quickly.
See you next year for new Tech Days !!!!!
