Wreck of Spanish Galleon Saint Florent the 31-10-2011
We are in the sixteenth century (year 1500), two Spanish Galleons in the golf of Saint Florent fight against the fleet of Baron de la Garde. The Baron in a limited number of galleys following the storm raging ruse the enemy, the fight is tough but he wins. The two Spanish boats sink after a fire on board, he catches 15 others and flees the rest of the fleet.
Today the two sites where the wrecks rest are called Mortella II and Mortella III. The inventor Arnaud Cazenave de la Roche conducted excavation campaigns on site III but not yet on the site N ° II deeper (-47 meters), he has in a file just listed the parts at the bottom, Canons, Anchor, stone balls, remains of the hull. Do not expect to find a boat on its hull, it's still more than 500 years the wreck rests at the bottom of the water.
The dive is done in full water, one goes down along the anchorage, one arrives on a zone of about twenty meters of side. We immediately see a barrel with its characteristic mouth, the barrel is circled. A superb anchor 4 meters long is flat with its attachment ring pointed to the surface. The site contains about 6 scattered guns, looking closely we can see cannon balls made of stone, the fauna has covered them. Metal parts are placed on the bottom, surely pieces of the hull, there is also a tumulus (big pile of stone). Time goes quickly in the background and especially since it is placed on the mud, the slightest blow of palm raises everything, it is time to go back. We will stay for about fifteen minutes at the bottom for as many levels. (Thanks Actisub)
See you soon …
