The counting of the votes of the Young Jury of the World Underwater Image Festival has just ended. More than 3600 schoolchildren from France (Île de France, Nord - Pas de Calais, Brittany, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, Reunion Island) and Senegal took part in the vote. Verdict: “Poèmes au clair de lune”, a production by Elodie Turpin (Canada) is the Young Audience Jury Prize 2009-2010.
"And if we went to see what Lady the Moon inspires the inhabitants of the common seas? Let us squirt without apprehension and observe the sea and its fortunes“. Thus begins the award-winning 9-minute short film combining poetry and naturalistic science.
Elodie Turpin, young director and biologist invites us on a nocturnal discovery of the underwater world. Not very far, not very deep, just at the mouth of the port of Taliarte in the Canaries, the nightlife of the fauna, full of surprises, seems to have arisen from a dream. “Poèmes au clair de lune” also received the Free expression award in the short film category during the 2009 World Underwater Image Festival.
The Young Jury, which is in its 16th edition, is organized by the World Underwater Image Festival, with the support of Nausicaa de Boulogne-sur-Mer, Ifremer, the Aquarium de la Porte Dorée in Paris and the Oceanographic Institute - Fondation Albert 1er, Prince de Monaco in Paris.
Originally, this prize was based on the vote of a jury of children present during the screenings of the World Underwater Image Festival. In 2004, this competition took on a whole new dimension and broke free of the limits of the capacity of the event to invite itself to the colleges. The competition (free) takes place as follows: teachers who request it receive a selection of films presented at the Festival on DVD as well as a rating sheet. According to the proposed criteria, the students elect the winning film of the Young Audience Award. Since 2004, this operation has met with great success in the colleges of Alpes-Maritimes, Var, in the Paris region and in the northern departments in particular.
This operation corresponds to one of the main objectives of the Festival: raising public awareness of the underwater environment. With the Young Audience Jury, the Festival offers schoolchildren an awareness campaign combining an artistic approach and reflection on the underwater world.
The 2009 - 2010 edition gathered the votes of 3679 students in nearly 120 establishments [Participating colleges: Provence - Alpes - Côte d'Azur (42); Nord- - Pas de Calais (35); Brittany (16); Île de France (9); Senegal (10); Reunion Island (2)]
