San Benito Islands: “show” the adults!
The arid islands of St. Benedict are three in number, it is on the easternmost island, Benito del estethat our dives took place. The idea was to bypass a rocky promontory to enter a small cove where pinnipeds, seals and sea lions are installed.
It was on this spot that I tasted for the first time solo diving.
Foursome, with my partners Erwan and Patrice, and Gus the Dominican Francophile, the group split in two, when everyone thought they had found the way to the creek. While Erwan and Patrice got entangled in a cramped space and tasted the joys of the washing machine, with Gus we crossed the road of a guitar stripe (zapteryx exasperata).

I didn't miss the selections for one reason more than another. Well, I was sick that week. Impossible to breathe normally, to sleep normally.
In detail, we were 8 on Monday morning, and 4 on Monday evening. Then there were 2 of us at the end of the second half-day. Then there was only one left on the evening of the second day. Then came 2 other participants (mf28, N1) who followed the 4 remaining days.
In the end, there were 20 places on the Antibes Creps.
What I understood from the debrief of the antibes creps with the maximum of impartiality on my part:
According to the regulations, I am N3 (like the 6 others eliminated) even if we have different school courses, or diving instructor (there was a PADI Course Director), and I therefore had to participate in the pre-selection of 2 days from Monday and Tuesday. Given that this is the first year, that the regulations allow level 3 (+ first aid training PSE1, and sea license in hand) to participate, the creps is required to receive us for the selection. But there are more participants than places. By talking, I understood that they do not take risks. On the other hand, the DEJEPS level allows teaching at 60 meters and the tutoring of DEJEPS trainees. For my part, I realized while discussing with the creps, that I do not need this level to carry out my project. They really helped me to re-project myself after this cold shower.
So now, I put to redo things already acquired to pass my N4, obtain my Common Trunk, pass my federal MF1, and obtain a State Patent in bridging. Will remain in 2 years, if I wish it, to obtain UC4 of DEJEPS.
To be continued…
