Meeting with the wild dolphins of the Red Sea
Special cruise organized by the Blue Lagoon agency and Fabrice Boissier from August 20 to 27, 2011
You do not have to be an experienced diver, a competitive swimmer or an experienced freediver to participate in this cruise. You just have to want to realize a dream, to swim with wild dolphins.
Children are welcome if they can swim.
It is aboard a comfortable Egyptian ship that can accommodate 24 passengers that you embark for your week of discovery of the Red Sea reefs and its strange inhabitants. There is little navigation during this cruise and when the boat is stopped, it is still protected from a coral reef.
Although this trip is geared towards snorkeling, some "bottle" dives are offered during the stay to certified divers (level 1 accepted). They will immerse themselves in autonomy for those who have the level, or supervised by experienced instructors (at no extra charge).
If it is possible to observe different species of dolphins in the Red Sea it is especially the Stenella longirostris (long-beaked dolphin) that you will have the chance to approach during this stay. A colony of about one hundred people regularly frequent the interior of the Sataya Reef. Once arrived on the zone, also called, rightly Dolphin reef the boat positioned in the lagoon serves as a floating hotel, protected from the waves by a coral reef of several kilometers. It becomes a privileged observation post to monitor the movements of dolphins who spend part of the day sheltered in this shallow lagoon. It is in zodiac, idling engine that the approach of groups of dolphins is realized. In the vicinity of marine mammals, the engine is cut and the observation of their different behaviors is essential before getting into the water. This will determine the surface approach technique that swimmers will have to adopt in order to be accepted in their midst. By carefully following the advice of your guide you can approach them respectfully and share with them intense moments : touching contemplations of moms with their young, share crazy aquatic antics with young dolphins players, observations of affectionate behavior, ...
These dolphins are completely free and it is they who decide to let themselves approach and interactions that they authorize with us. If, during the stay, the encounter with the dolphins is practically guaranteed at 100%, they may sometimes be absent from the lagoon or remain distant from time to time. It's up to us to accept and respect those moments of intimacy they need. When the dolphins let themselves be less close, it is the other inhabitants of the reefs (multicolored fish, rays, turtles, ...) that your guide will make you discover during aquatic walks along the reefs or around innumerable coral "potatoes".
Your guide: Fabrice Boissier, dive instructors, professional pet photographers, editor of the magazine Chercheurs d'eau is an enthusiast of marine life. Since 9 years he accompanies cruises in Red Sea and has acquired a unique experience in contact with these dolphins. He knows exactly the behaviors and will guide and advise you to allow you to approach them as calmly as possible, with respect and in complete safety. During the week he will enthusiastically communicate his passion for the underwater world, will bring you a lot of tricks to make beautiful pictures with your photo or video material and will reveal the true secrets of the Red Sea ...
