Thursday night was the first Epson Red Sea 2011 Festival Awards. A full room, high-end projection means, two presenters worthy of prime time on TV and an evening full of laughter and emotions.
For this first ceremony, the images of the World Shoot Out were awarded. This unique competition turns the whole world into a playground for underwater photographers. The only rule is that the images must be taken during the month of August and correspond to one of the 7 categories offered: destination, wide angle, macro and super macro, wreck, environment and conservation, freshwater and amateurs.
A total of 226 photographers submitted 1556 images, taken in places as diverse as Alaska, China, Tahiti, Mexico, Papua New Guinea and many more. An impressive selection and many surprising images of imagination and creativity. With a special mention to the “amateurs” category, really defined by the fact that the camera used must be of the compact family. Below, some of the images that won the approval of the juries ...
And we will take the opportunity to congratulate the noble representative of France who won the prize in the Wrecks category, the well-known Nicolas Barraqué who in addition to being an excellent photographers is the only editor specializing in the underwater world with the Turtle Prod label. A magnificent image of the amphorae of Marseille that you will find shortly here, as soon as the last deliberations have been closed and we can publish all the images (ouch Nico, we will have to pay shots now 🙂
