Maldives Cruise (before you decide read carefully) : Paradise or Paradox? have you been well informed ??
A few question marks to ask, a few tips to follow… so as not to be disappointed during your cruise.
Before choosing a diving cruise in the Maldives .. (Paradise well known to divers)
ASK the right questions, and ASK the right questions,
For example:
1 - where does the night anchorage (s) take place :
- from the first day: do you go directly on a “cruise” as the “old” cruise service providers have always done and still do… (when you land in the middle of the morning) or stay there among the other boats on stand-by for the night!?
- from the last day / night while you leave the next day…. is it the same scenario ?? a little tour in the “port” of Hulumalé before leaving ??
DO YOU REALLY DESERVE THIS !! ??
Will you spend it there? below?
Tranquility assured? but not for "those" that we believe… do we pay a night of “hotel trade” for such a “decor” ?
passage of long haul and seaplanes, speed boat, ferry a few meters from day and night boats
So Paradise or Paradox ??
2 - Find out about “possible” SUPPLEMENTS to be paid on site:
* Local tax (s), usually around 100€ per week ???
* The number of dives included in your package… ??? commonly 2 per day -
* the price of extra dives! 20 €, (supplement of 140€ per week)
* If you need a 15L what is the supplement ?? 5 € / day ??, 35€ per week)
* Hook rental / sale 5 € / day sold 20€
* Coaching if you need it…. 5 € / day, 35€ per week
* Park taxes !! ?? commonly of the order of 35€ per week Note: to date, there is only one paying park, it is Hannifaru. Does the route that is proposed to you go in this zone?
* The barbecue on the beach will cost you 8€
* Your last day: Are you being “gotten rid of” by taking you to the superb hotel at the “airport” ??? at your expense… .of course! or do you spend the night in the “Port” of Hulumalé under the jet engines?
Result: the bill can " inflate”Very seriously (about 373€ just for these possible SMALL SUPPLEMENTS ) and the price which was announced to you during your request for information, is largely exceeded (approximately 30% of your total invoice) and this, without having made any extras: consumption on board (aperitif and other soft drink), tips of the sailors who serve you and ballad, and just with the “FAMEUX""SUPPLEMENTS”Disguised or more exactly hidden to make you dangle a very small price, which is only a decoy… you are not a“ goldfish !? ” don't let yourself be “phished” Read between the lines… once there it's too late… you will have to lighten your wallet…. or heat up your credit card ...Rest assured! these practices are not used by all diving cruise operators in the Maldives ... be vigilant, attentive, ask questions, the right questions and perhaps it is cheaper in the end to turn to providers who practice the “all-in”And the clarity and with which you will not have bad surprises, and this for more than 30 years….
3 How many divers on your boat? 25 divers, 35 divers….?
Do you like diving in “Perrier” ??
Or do you prefer small boats with groups of 14 to 16 divers !?4 The route:
A frozen “itinerary”, is it desirable? do the fish have a watch and a calendar ?? does nature respond to “our” precise schedules? it seems that some think so ... (maybe some want to be reassuring in the eyes of their future customers but will nature adapt to this timing ????)
“Guides” with their long years of experience in diving cruises on site, are probably more “attentive to nature”; they know it and know what it offers according to the specific conditions of the given moment and offer you the possibility of enjoying the best place at the best time…?
For them, there is above all nothing frozen! no predetermined program, especially not. They want you to discover the best and that your holidays are “optimized”
These reflections therefore raise another question:5 What is the experience of your French guides on site? towards which you trust
Guides who have 10 years of experience in diving cruises in the Maldives, who are also Photographers, cameramen, enthusiasts and always there to guide you and tell you about the Maldives ...? or even introduce you to Rebreather diving,
or guides who have a very subjective experience of a few cruises *, * (in the Red Sea and / and the Maldives or elsewhere ???)
Go immerse yourself as you like ????
After all these questions and the choice you have made, will the Maldives remain for you a Paradise, the realization of your dreams and or will they become a “PARADOX” and a disappointment?
A wise diver is worth a full tackle ...

May 05 was the second a little deeper 14 m and 28 min underwater and especially also cold but the time to see a small boat at less 7 m it must be said that the water was not very clear
short to follow
Here are some very good elements of reflection ...
Thank you Christian
Yes, very good questions to ask yourself. I would also add to know the origin of the other divers in general on the boat. I say this because I went alone to the Maldives in November on a liveaboard which makes the majority of reservations in Spain. Spanish instructors, 15 other Spanish divers. The instructors also spoke English of course but it was difficult to intervene in a discussion of 15 very excited Spaniards when you don't speak a word of this language… :)) That was the only negative point. Otherwise the dives were amazing! I have dived a lot in Indonesia but the Maldives is really a destination apart. I don't think I will be returning anywhere anytime soon. If ever, I have found very good information about the different regions of the Maldives to dive into on this page: https://www.dailydive.com/fr/meilleures-destinations-plongee/maldives
I will try the south for my next diving trip ..
Thank you for this info!!
