CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an intergovernmental agreement binding governments.
The government of Fiji has proposed the addition of the list of 9 species of Mobula rays to Appendix II. By signing the petition launched by LONGITUDE 181 and MANTA TRUST you are helping formally support the Fiji Islands in their request during COP 17 / CITES which will take place in Johannesburg from September 24 to October 5, 2016.
Thus with a majority of 2 / 3 votes the international trade of Mobula rays will be controlled to avoid an unacceptable level of sales that threatens the survival of these precious and beautiful animals.
