A little over two years after the inscription of the reefs of New Caledonia as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a monitoring mission has just been carried out by Joséphine Langley, scientist working for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
During her two-week stay in the Territory, Joséphine Langley came to Hienghène accompanied by Nathalie Baillon - head of the aquatic environment and resources department in the North Province and by Pierre-Yves Vion - director of the State Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Environment.
This visit to us, on March 1 and 2, enabled him to meet members of the management committees of marine protected areas on the North-East coast (Hienghène and Pouébo MPAs) and to discuss with them the achievements in progress. and future prospects.
She was also able to meet the agents of the Gardes Nature brigade which the Province has set up to ensure compliance with the brand new environmental code.
This brief visit was the opportunity for us to show him the bay of Hienghène, the mangroves on the river, the rocks of Lindéralique on the sea side and to discover the underwater and botanical trails located in the MPA of the islet. Hienga.
The particularly good weather on the second day allowed me to take it diving in the marine protected area of the Doïmen reef on the “Cathedral” site. The second dive of the morning took place at the “Dongan Hiengu” site.
We hope to have thus contributed to providing positive elements to enable it to substantiate its report which will be submitted to the World Heritage Committee at its next meeting, to be held in Bahrain next June.

I dived in January in Caledonia, precisely where the inspectors went, it's an underwater paradise, we don't know where to look, it's so magnificent, colorful, alive, attractive! May these wonders last a long time! Elisabeth
in two days having a serious eopinion seems very short
