I received an email from my boyfriend Guido who worked in a diving facility in Mabul, which has just opened its structure on the island of Pom-Pom at 45 mn (by boat) from Sipadan, with an office in Semporna .
He was passing through the Semporna market the day before yesterday and seeing on the stalls of manta rays, 9 baby manta rays and cut up leopard sharks, he asked where they came from. Here is the text of his email that I broadcast with his permission. Although his French has some mistakes because it is not his language, you will still understand without problem:
“… All cut into a thousand pieces…. to my question where did you fish all this? The proud fisherman swells like a frog: SIPADAN last night. I typed a scandal at the marine police station, I recorded everything on video at the market, including the fisherman who admitted to having fished his in SIPADAN. Last week I found an ilegale bomb factory, for dynamite fishing we sent the army, with the help of the owner of Skuba Junkie.
I expect repercussions in the following days. The bungalows of SCUBA JUNKIE (in Sipadan) burned down on Mabul, 4 days ago, the horror. Of course we are talking about an accident. My balls yes ... it's war, I don't know whether to let myself be carried away in this crusade or to let go and turn my back, I have the feeling of being a 5 mt zodiac in a storm in the center of the Pacific Ocean with waves of 50 mt… .. and in the end is that going to change something? "
I was in Sipadan in August 2010 and had heard about fishing in the reserve but not yet about dynamite. Guido has prepared form letters for divers who wish to help him to fill out a petition and send it to the government of the province of Sabbah.
You can contact him on his website http://www.celebescuba.com/and on Face Book for the photos he took http://www.facebook.com/celebescuba#!/profile.php?id=100000554815957
You can also go diving at home. Despite what you just read, the area is a quiet and beautiful place. Guido is conscientious, funny and pro, and like many of you, he tries to fight so that we can still see cool things in diving. Thanks for him.

Sharks are NOT the evils of our seas! look at these pictures and see how close and friendly we've been to the biggers and most feared of them!
They NEVER intentionally attack people; what the media call a shark “attack” is really a shark “mistake”: we are NOT a food source for them.
In the opposite, the total number of sharks annually is well over 100 million !!
But take care if you eat them! alarming concentrations of mercury are found in sharks: this can cause neurobiological diseases, and also sexual dysfunction and sterility! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fliDo92FxIc
Hi everybody,
Laurent, I found photos (3 not terrible), but on which we can see the backgrounds. I took them a little before arriving at Barracuda Point, the ground was littered with pieces of coral but it was already a while ago. See if what you saw looks like this.

And for the record, it's not just that; most of the dives are really good.
