Do not be fooled by the "smiles" displayed by the dolphins, which are only a simple morphological characteristic, dolphinariums are veritable prisons for cetaceans. The dolphins present in these establishments are captured in natural environments or from births in captivity.
Captures in natural environments, inevitable to preserve the genetic qualities of specimens, are carried out in a climate of extreme violence. Indeed, as we can see at this very moment in Taiji in Japan which has the sad record of being the 1st world supplier of dolphins for amusement parks… Schools of migrating dolphins are brought down by fishermen to using sound barriers towards the coast (dolphins are very sensitive to noise). The most beautiful dolphins are then selected and sent to the four corners of the world while the others are massacred in a barbaric way (cf. The Cove - the bay of shame, documentary film by Louie Psihoyos distributed by Luc Besson)
After a trying and stressful journey, the survivors then discover their new place of life: a narrow concrete basin, treated water, a very noisy environment (crowds ...), a social life reduced to only a few individuals who have neither same culture and same language. These captives will never hunt for food again. Their meals, dead fish stuffed with medicines, will be allocated to them in exchange for the realization of various and varied shows. Which will sign their total enslavement to man.
In a natural environment, a dolphin can travel 60 km per day, dive up to 200 m, benefit from a very varied diet and experience thrilling adventures among his family for an average of 40 years. Dolphins, like most cetaceans, are part of complex social structures within which individuals are closely linked. They are "hyper-social" and very intelligent mammals with a strong family and clan spirit. Each tribe has its own codes and its own language.
We can therefore understand that life in captivity does not suit them. The mortality rate is indeed high in dolphinariums (a dolphin lives on average 7 years in captivity). Many pathologies linked to captivity are the cause (pneumonia, ulcers, etc.) and stress and boredom push many of them to stop breathing and thus kill themselves.
Even so, the lucrative dolphinarium industry continues to grow at the expense of animal welfare (a dolphin can sell for $ 150 and can fetch more than double a dolphinarium).
Privileging the discovery of these animals in their natural environment remains today the most effective way of raising the awareness of the greatest number of people to the fate to which they are devoted ... To inform in order to better protect these cetaceans and definitively stop the creation of new dolphinariums by following the examples of the United Kingdom and Brazil. Existing structures should be closed and animals should be reintegrated as far as possible in their natural environment.
Sea'nergie partner of Sea Shepherd
Sea'nergie carries and develops projects to support the various campaigns led by SEA SHEPHERD, this NGO multiplies the campaigns on all the seas of the world in order to stop the poaching, the massacres and the destruction of the oceans work with the defense, the conservation and conservation of oceans, based on the World Charter for Nature.
The two associations working hand in hand, all projects carried by Sea'nergie are validated by Sea Shepherd and Paul Watson. This NGO enforces and enforces the laws for the protection of the oceans in the high seas by relying on the United Nations World Charter for Nature: Fight against poaching, the illegal commercialization of protected species, the illegal killing of whales, sharks , seals, dolphins, bluefin tuna etc. and the protection of marine ecosystems.
An ethical and responsible trip that takes the opposite of dolphinariums
The idea: organize an ethical and responsible trip to the Red Sea to meet the free dolphins, accompanied by a specialized guide who knows perfectly the behavior of these marine mammals because if this method of awareness is effective, it must be measured in order to bring a minimum of nuisance to the dolphins. During the week, the participants will follow an educational training with conferences, screenings and debates on current and future campaigns.
By leaving for these cruises, you participate in the protection of the oceans; part of the price of each trip being donated to the Sea Shepherd association.
The dates of these stays: 27 August at 03 Seven 2011 and 03 at 10 Seven 2011

It's great to be able to say that we do not feel narcosis…!
There are people like that, I know some who always cut corners and nothing has happened to them!
There was a dentist who told him that, being used to nitrous oxide (an anesthetic) he would dive to 80 meters every morning to whet his appetite.
Always at the cleat Géraldine, Good luck.
Thank you for your feedback:-)
For Remy: I'm there now, 3 cubs were born this week, and 5 runners-up will soon give birth! Great week! biz
For Stéphane; your comments go straight to my heart, thank you 🙂 Looking forward to meet one day 😉
@GG: we want pictures of the little ones !!! You who are lucky enough to be there, let us experience this !!!

Hello Géraldine
What a great idea this type of trip. I completely share this way of seeing things and what could be nicer than this type of meeting rather than playing the “Magic circus” as we can see in many countries and many spots.
I hope there will be more trips to come.
In any case your ticket allowed me to discover the Sea'nergie association and I intend to make my contribution to a boat for Sea Sheperd.
It would be good to be able to disseminate this type of action to raise awareness among divers and non-divers.
Good bubbles with dolphins.
Hello Isabelle, thank you for your message, it makes me very happy! I have just returned from a cruise Lamya (President Sea Shepherd) and Stéphane (President of Sea nergie) had just returned from the Faroe Islands (I wrote an article about this on my wall / Stop the Grind) and were on board with me . It was a great pleasure to welcome them and make them discover these free dolphins, they loved it! Part of the sum of the people registered for this stay will be donated to the association. If you want to get involved in one of these two associations, you are welcome, do not hesitate to contact me for more info, 😉
Other stays will be set up next year, with the same ethics of course, I would be delighted to welcome you aboard my ship.
The boat project is huge, (It will be dedicated to the campaigns on the Mediterranean) it concerns us all, especially us divers who take advantage of the gems that the sea can offer us. Welcome !!!
I invite you as a buddie of this step! see you soon, Best regards, Geraldine
What exactly are these educational cruises? Is there an approach in PMT?
Hello Odile, these cruises are intended above all to be convivial and allow you to get to know Sea Shepherd and Sea Nergie better, thus keeping abreast of current or future campaigns. During the stay, we exchanged a lot, there were screenings like Sharkwater, The cove, very interesting reports on marine fauna, campaign archives threads etc. Of course dolphins and whales are in every conversation: Taiji, the Faroe Islands, the catches, the dolphinariums .. We were able to rub shoulders with them closely (those of the lagoon; this is my part as a guide) to learn and realize how much their way of life and their habits are amazing and exciting! Through my experience I explain to the person to understand part of what they have taught me (the dolphins) during years of observation ... It is not a question of swimming behind them but rather of trying to establish a contact with them. Of course, this approach technique can be established only with great respect, which makes it possible to feel a real and equal complicity between man and animal. All the people who come during these cruises learn to discover dolphins other than by what they could read or see, rendering them by this experience of the defenders of these noble animals. The meetings are done in snorkel fins and there is also the possibility of diving.
Part of the amount of the trip is donated to Sea Nergie who plans to fund a boat for the next Sea Shepherd campaigns.
