PRESENTATION OF THE WORK
Jacques Collina-Girard has been diving in Marseille and Provence for more than 30 years at the Club du Vieux Plongeur and then Marseille Sea side, (http://mcmplongee.fr/). University and scientist, he teaches geology and prehistory at the University of Provence (UMR6636 of the CNRS). As part of professional dives, he was able to participate, among others, in 1982 and 1994 in the study missions of the famous Cosquer cave, a prehistoric cave with paintings, half submerged, whose entrance is located between Marseille and Cassis in -37 m .. This original and very complete work is a response, by a scientist and a teacher, to the curiosity of divers and sea lovers, on the natural environment they frequent: geology, prehistory, meteorology, fauna , local, sometimes culinary, use of marine resources. This book will also constitute, for the sportsmen, a detailed guide of the dives located, in large part, on the territory of the future National Park of the Calanques. These sites are presented through precise maps, so far unparalleled, accompanied by suggested itineraries through several thousand exploration and supervision dives on places that are among the most spectacular in the Mediterranean and on which the author gives personal information not included in the dive guides currently available.
